I went out on some idealistic binge

Took on more than I could cope

Woke up with a heavy heart

A hangover of broken hope

Let’s burn all of the history books

The documents that held us down

And move on through to something new

A starting point

A building ground

Recently it dawned on me that I don’t write enough anymore. Yes, there are lyrics I work on for each song, and bits that I write on here, but I recall times in my teens when I couldn’t stop writing - sometimes just jotting my thoughts down, a stream-of-consciousness, word splattering mess on the page, keeping diaries, and sometimes writing a poem or two. 
Here’s a little poem I just wrote now, it’s just a light-hearted two verse limerick about love and doing things for the ones we care about. 

When pursuing love’s coveted prize,
I composed a sonata of sighs,
Yet the following morning,
Arrived with a warning;
Grand gestures are not always wise.


Still I built her a palace to measure,
That should bring her immeasurable pleasure,
It stands up in the skies,
But the ones in her eyes,
Hold the only true beauty I treasure.

Day two of studio tomorrow - today was a reminder of how much I’ve missed that environment and challenging myself in that way. I’m excited to hear these songs take full form, and I can’t wait for you all to hear them.
